About the SCTOA

The South Carolina Training Officers Association was established in 2008 by Brian Boling as a way to enhance the state-wide training of all law enforcement officers in the state of South Carolina. This Association gives all of the training officers in South Carolina the ability to share knowledge and best practices with each other, which in turn benefits all of the officers in the state.

Quarterly meetings are held via in-person or online attendees to keep everyone informed of any changes with the SCCJA (South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy) and provide any updates or training/opportunities being offered by various departments throughout the state.

The SCTOA holds an annual Training/Networking Conference which has gained more and more traction as the years have gone by. Attendees consist of training officers from across South Carolina as well as vendors and presenters. In 2008 when Brian Boling established the SCTOA the conference had approximately 30 attendees from the entire state.

The conference has grown reaching a number as high as 140 attendees in 2024. Part of the annual Training Conference is awarding the Lauren Galloway Training Officer of the Year award to an individual Training Officer who was nominated by their department. A panel of judges are assembled and the redacted submissions are reviewed to choose a winner. The winner is chosen solely on their accomplishments, as outlined by their department. The nominated individual is unknown to any of the judges.
